Voice of the Circle - Spring 2006

INAFA Convention, August 2-6, 2006

The Northern California Flute Circle is the host circle for the 2006 INAFA Convention. The conference will be taking place in Belmont California on the campus of Notre Dame de Namur University. This will be a special event with many of the top flute players and flute makers from around the world, in attendance. This is a four day event, with workshops each day and concerts every night, with lots of flute playing in between.
Special thanks go to Bob DeMattei who is responsible for organizing and submitting the winning bid to INAFA on behalf of the NCFC. Bob attended the last INAFA convention in Taos New Mexico, so Bob knows first hand the excitement and energy that’s generated with this many Native American Flute players in one place.
We have formed several committees and we’re looking for volunteers both as leaders on the committees and to help before and during the conference. For more info and a complete agenda for the event goto: http://www.inafa.org/2006convention.htm

Vince Redhouse to visit Joaquin Clan

By Dan Ricketts

I have the pleasure to announce two time Grammy nominee NAF artist Vince Redhouse will be doing a performance and workshop in Modesto California on July 30, 2006, which is the Sunday before the INAFA convention. If you are planning on coming to the INAFA convention in August and are planning on coming a bit early this might be an opportunity you will want to take advantage of. Vince will be sharing and playing at the Prescott Free Church Sunday 07/30/06 at 9:30 am (open to all) and will be doing a performance/creative type workshop that afternoon at 2pm for the circle. The cost is $15 hosted by the Joaquin Clan of the Northern California Flute Circle. Modesto is an easy 2 hour drive from the Bay area. One of our clan members who is now in Arizona in school recently met Vince at a Tucson event and gives me glowing reports about him. Vince will be performing at the convention the following week. If you have any questions feel free to contact Dan Ricketts at joaquinclan AT nalfute DOT com. We are looking forward to hosting Vince and his wife for a couple of days at our home! Survey Results

Thanks to everyone who completed the annual survey. This information helps the NCFC leadership team to determine the programs and events and improvements for the NCFC for the year. We’re please to announce that the winner of a one year membership, selected at random from those surveys which were returned is: Dan Aslin of the Capitol Clan. Thanks to all who participated!!

Camping Trip

Even though we originally didn’t plan on doing a camping trip this year with the INAFA Convention happening, feedback in the annual survey show’s that there is enough interest. As a result, we are looking at pulling a camping trip/retreat together in the late September timeframe. Stay tuned. If you have ideas on where we can go or if you would like to be involved in planning the camping trip, please email Mike at ncfc AT naflute DOT com
