Voice of the Circle - Spring 2006 |
INAFA Convention, August 2-6, 2006The Northern California Flute Circle is the host circle for the 2006 INAFA Convention. The conference will be taking place in Belmont California on the campus of Notre Dame de Namur University. This will be a special event with many of the top flute players and flute makers from around the world, in attendance. This is a four day event, with workshops each day and concerts every night, with lots of flute playing in between. Here is the tentative evening concert schedule: Wed, August 2: Thursday, August 3: Friday, August 4: Saturday, August 5: NCFC Gathering at Mary Youngblood’s HouseIt’s that time of the year! Mary Youngblood is hosting an All-NCFC gathering at her house again this year. WHEN: Saturday, July 8th, 2006 WORKSHOPS: Due to limited space, each workshop will be limited to 20 people. Priority workshop signups for NCFC members until June 15th. We’ll have a potluck dinner at 5 PM with drinks provided by the NCFC and then an open mic jam session starting at 6 PM. We are hoping to get some additional musicians to join us for the open mic jam session so that you can have the opportunity to play with other instruments and experiment with what you’ve learned at Mary’s workshop. If you have any friends who play other instruments, invite them to join us. Bring your flutes, drums and other instruments to the event. New Flutemaker Discount program for 2006We are pleased to announce a new membership benefit. We have contacted some of the best flute makers and arranged for a discount for NCFC members, and just in time for the INAFA convention! Join the NCFC Listserv. Another benefit of being an NCFC member is that you can join the NCFC Listserv. We use this optional listserv to post messages about upcoming NCFC events. You can also chat with other NCFC members. To join the listserv goto: Vince Redhouse to visit Joaquin ClanBy Dan RickettsI have the pleasure to announce two time Grammy nominee NAF artist Vince Redhouse will be doing a performance and workshop in Modesto California on July 30, 2006, which is the Sunday before the INAFA convention. If you are planning on coming to the INAFA convention in August and are planning on coming a bit early this might be an opportunity you will want to take advantage of. Vince will be sharing and playing at the Prescott Free Church Sunday 07/30/06 at 9:30 am (open to all) and will be doing a performance/creative type workshop that afternoon at 2pm for the circle. The cost is $15 hosted by the Joaquin Clan of the Northern California Flute Circle. Modesto is an easy 2 hour drive from the Bay area. One of our clan members who is now in Arizona in school recently met Vince at a Tucson event and gives me glowing reports about him. Vince will be performing at the convention the following week. If you have any questions feel free to contact Dan Ricketts at joaquinclan AT nalfute DOT com. We are looking forward to hosting Vince and his wife for a couple of days at our home! Click here for more info Survey ResultsThanks to everyone who completed the annual survey. This information helps the NCFC leadership team to determine the programs and events and improvements for the NCFC for the year. We’re please to announce that the winner of a one year membership, selected at random from those surveys which were returned is: Dan Aslin of the Capitol Clan. Thanks to all who participated!! Camping TripEven though we originally didn’t plan on doing a camping trip this year with the INAFA Convention happening, feedback in the annual survey show’s that there is enough interest. As a result, we are looking at pulling a camping trip/retreat together in the late September timeframe. Stay tuned. If you have ideas on where we can go or if you would like to be involved in planning the camping trip, please email Mike at ncfc AT naflute DOT com |
